NASHVILLE, Tennessee., September 12, 2024 /PRNewswire/ — Newport Healthcare, a leading national provider of evidence-based mental health treatments for adolescents, young adults and families, is proud to partner with To Write Love on Her Arms (TWLOHA) for the eighth consecutive year to support suicide prevention awareness, coinciding with September’s Suicide Prevention Awareness Month.
Suicide remains a critical public health issue, especially among young people. According to data collected by The Jason Foundation (Newport is an affiliate of The Jason Foundation), suicide rates among children ages 10-14 have more than doubled in the past decade. On average, 3,703 suicide attempts occur among young people in grades 9-12 each day in our country. Suicide is one of the leading causes of preventable death in our country, yet it still claims an average of 125 young lives each week.
In response to these alarming statistics, Newport Healthcare and TWLOHA have joined forces to raise awareness of suicide risk and prevention. Their partnership includes cross-marketing campaigns to spread the message of hope and prevention, a matching donation campaign to fund mental health resources, and two dedicated QPR Suicide Prevention Trainings for healthcare workers in schools across the country.
“Newport Healthcare remains deeply committed to breaking down stereotypes around mental health and providing accessible, evidence-based treatment to young people in need,” he said Joe ProcopioCEO of Newport Healthcare. “By partnering with TWLOHA again this year, we hope to reach even more people struggling with depression, addiction, self-harm and suicidal thoughts, and let them know that help is available and hope is possible.”
The theme of TWLOHA’s campaign for Suicide Prevention Awareness Month 2024 is Please stay alive, a sentiment that urges young people to stay for the possibility of change, to stay for better days, to stay to find and embrace community, and to stay to become that community for someone else. “Suicide prevention must go beyond the clinical framework and encompass every aspect of our daily lives,” he said. Lindsay KolschCo-Executive Director of TWLOHA. “This campaign seeks to change that by providing practical steps and key information that will allow us to reach those struggling, connect them to care, and ensure that they feel heard and supported. We are able to maximize our reach and impact through the ongoing partnership and support of Newport Healthcare. It is our collective effort that can transform awareness into action and hope.”
Newport Healthcare supports the accessibility and affordability of mental health care by offering free mental health resources and community support groups, nationwide treatment services, and in-network status with most major insurance providers. Expanded services include treatment for substance use disorders and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). For more information, visit NewportHealthcare.com.
